In Fool's Gold, Crystal Chain Gang manipulate and cast lead crystal glass to imitate raw mineral forms, creating objects that appear precious yet challenge conventional ideas of worth. Through the labour-intensive process of cast glass, the artists transform a material associated with luxury into convincing facsimiles of naturally occurring minerals, prompting questions about authenticity, desirability, and the stories we attach to objects.

Working from their studio in Martinborough, New Zealand, artists Dennison and Williams are known for their meticulous use of traditional cast-glass techniques. Their practice frequently draws on New Zealand's social history, flora, fauna, and domestic culture, creating works that sit between observation and illusion.

With its title referencing the deceptive allure of pyrite, Fool's Gold invites viewers to consider how value is assigned, and how easily appearances can influence perception.
