Being Clothes
Ōtautahi, Aotearoa
Being Clothes is a collection of handmade garments by artist and designer Brooke Georgia. Created in her Ōtautahi studio, each piece is formed from natural, repurposed fibres—reclaimed, dyed, layered, and finished by hand.
Working with materials that carry prior lives, the practice centres on transformation. Fabrics are chosen not only for their composition, but for their history—what they have held, and what they might become.
No two garments are the same. Each exists as a singular work, shaped through process rather than repetition, and unable to be remade or reproduced.
Being Clothes moves outside of seasonal rhythm. Instead, it follows cycles of salvaging, repair, and renewal—where clothing becomes artefact, and wear becomes a continuation of the work.
